This was my first "real" bass. At the time, I was
using a cheap Jazz Bass imitation. Today there are all
kinds of good reasonably priced basses like Squire,
Peavy, Rouge, Washburn, Ibenez, and the list goes on
and on. Back in the 70's, though,
cheap electric basses were, well, cheap. They never
stayed in tune and getting them set up was a waste of
money. At the time, I didn't even know what a setup
was, for that matter. The bass was my cousin's and
was given to me by my aunt after he passed away. This
bass is a vintage instrument for sure. It is probably
early 70's and maybe even earlier. It's also a short
scale and from a bygone era of Rock'n Roll. You
generally don't see semi-hollow body basses anymore
but there are a few guys around who still use them.
It has a very mellow sound and works with either
roundwounds or flats. It always get compliments whenever
I bring it to a rehearsal. Unfortunately, it's not
really suited to the styles of music I play. I don't know
much about it either. I need to have an expert look at
it. I'm curious to see exactly what I have. Of course,
it's not for sale.
